We want you to make a diorama of a famous occurrence or scene. It can be a historical, current or future event, or it can be a nod to pop culture. The main rule is that all the characters must be played by Peeps, those marshmallowy chicks and rabbits that start plaguing checkout lines in every grocery and convenience store this time of year.
I know there's not a lot of time left for this, as the deadline for photo submissions is 11:59pm on March 2... but dude... I know that there's got to be at least one person here who finds this idea so amusing that they'll pull out all the stops.
Here's another site with some rather awesome images my friends might enjoy checking out. And this time, I know the artist personally. He is an astronomy/physics professor at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. His wife was one of my Journalism professors.
Imagine, once you see these images, seeing them on a larger scale. Set up in an art gallery. These bursts of light and color surrounded by blackness in an all white room. That was my introduction to Dr. Rector's work. And I've been a huge fan ever since. In addition, he's also an incredibly cool and fascinating guy.
Video evidence of a single mobster hitman vs. a couple of Gangstas:
As my dad points out, Vincent has a gun pointed right AT him and he draws his gun and shoots both gangstas before they can even react. Now imagine this on a larger scale. Mobsters win.
Edited: Yeah, mom and dad and I are sitting here at home watching Collateral and mom caught this scene. I was thrilled to have found the clip on YouTube to use as evidence in this debate.
As I have stated before, this year's election means something to me. And for the first time, I am willing to do whatever I can for a particular candidate to win the Democratic nomination for President. I know that as many of my friends share my politics as do those who do not. But I do feel that the idea of the Democratic Party's Superdelegates being able to vote for whomever they like regardless of the popular vote is wrong.
Moveon.org has created a petition asking the Superdelegates to vote in August for the candidate chosen by the people. So please. Take the time, if you haven't already, to read this letter and sign this petition.
As today is the celebration of the 1929 St. Valentine's Day Massacre, I have entered into a debate with a friend...
Which would win in a shootout:
Gangstas.... or Mobsters?
In my opinion, the mobsters would win hands down. They have the numbers, the organization, and the power to call on outside assistance if necessary.
gao_ai thinks that because gangstas tend to be in better shape than mobsters, they can evade and change position/get cover better. (They'd also probably have better weapons, but hey! They'll probably end up shooting each other instead of my mafia guys.)
Last night I joined ghost_light and a friend of hers for a "pay-what-you-can" dress rehearsal for Cyrano's Theater Company's production of Othello. In this version, Othello is an Aleut who is also a high ranking Russian officer (time set in Russian Alaska in 1849). This change really worked for the story of Othello, and I thought it was very well done.
I really enjoyed this play. Othello has always been one of my favorite Shakespeare plays. My only problem was that acoustics are not the greatest in this particular location and when the actors turned away from the audience it was difficult to understand what they were saying.
There is another "pay-what-you-can" performance tonight, and then the play runs February 8-24 at Cyrano's Off-Center Playhouse downtown. I'd definitely recommend seeing it if you get the chance. There were several people in our audience crying at the end. Well done.
